From Nashville hot chicken to ayam goreng tepung, these are the fried chicken places that keep us hunting across Klang Valley for “just one that more bite.
Malaysia has a fried chicken problem. Not because we don’t have enough fried chicken. Because we have a lot. Which ones are good?
Every week, someone tells us, “Bro, you HAVE to try this place.”
One friend swears by a neighbourhood ayam goreng stall.
Another insists Nashville hot chicken is the future.
Then someone else says, “Forget all that. This ayam golek has been around longer than all of them.”

And somehow… they’re usually all right.
For nearly three decades, that’s been the best part of FriedChillies.
Discovering great food, listening to passionate recommendations and finding the places worth making a detour for.
Not because they’re trendy. Because they’re genuinely sedap!

This list celebrates eight different styles of chicken that represent just how exciting Klang Valley’s fried chicken scene has become.
Some are long-time favourites. Some are newer names that have built loyal followings one plate at a time.
If you call yourself a food lover, these are the places you should try at least once.
How FriedChillies Chooses
People often ask us, “How do you decide?”

The answer is actually quite simple.
We don’t chase hype.
We look for food we’d happily recommend to our own friends.
Places we’d drive across Klang Valley for.
Places we’d queue for.
Places we’d return to, even after filming has ended.

More importantly, we celebrate people who care deeply about what they serve.
The founders, the family businesses, the small local brands and the passionate cooks who quietly make Malaysia one of the best places in the world to eat.
Because that’s what Lejens are.
The Lejens have been chosen for Ayam Lejen III!
You get to try all their fried chickens in 1 location, for one weekend only!
Some do special deals just for this fried chicken festival.
Who are the Ayam Lejens for 2026?
1. Fowlboys Diner, The Met KL
One of Klang Valley’s favourite names for Nashville Hot Chicken, Fowlboys started during the pandemic from an apartment kitchen.
Today they’re known for juicy pressure-fried chicken, customisable heat levels and addictive dipping sauces.
At Ayam Lejen III, you’ll get to try their signature bone-in chicken, tenders, mac & cheese and Hainan bread in one satisfying tasting plate.

For their bone-in chicken, Fowlboys insist on only using thighs due to their higher fat content. Their 24-hour spice brine helps to infuse the chicken in flavourful juices while also keeping it moist.
Thereβs also meaty tenders made from chicken fillet available with 7 different sauces.
Something you donβt usually get at a single outlet but now you can get them all at Ayam Lejen III.
2. Cowboys Barbecue & Grill, Ara Damansara
Cowboys built their reputation on beautifully smoked brisket, but ask their regulars and many will immediately mention the wings.
Marinated for a full day before frying, their trio of Buffalo Blaze, Classic Barbecue and Garlic Parmesan wings has become a crowd favourite.

Better yet, you can pair the sampler with their famous brisket for one hearty meal. You can also try their Chicka Taco with their in-house Chipotle Mayo, an easy and convenient choice for eating on the go
3. Hot Bird, TRX KL
If bigger is better, Hot Bird delivers. Their jumbo tenders are made using real chicken tenderloin and paired with a variety of house-made sauces. Choose your preferred spice level, grab your favourite dip and discover why Nashville hot chicken continues to win over Malaysian tastebuds.
4. Ayam Goreng Berhantu, Kampung Pandan Dalam
Some people love crispy chicken.
Others love sauce.
Ayam Goreng Berhantu gives you both.
Their crispy fried chicken is coated in generous layers of Original, Korea and Cheese sauces, creating the messy, finger-licking experience their loyal fans happily queue for. Fans have even flown in from Singapore and Indonesia just to eat their saucy chickens. Memang berhantu.

Tip: Tapau some of the Korea Chicken home and leave it for a couple of hours to allow the chicken to absorb the sauce longer, the flavours will seep into the bone and make the chicken even more kaw.
5. Muiz Hot Chicken, Bandar Seri Putra
Started in 2013 in Muar using a family recipe, Muiz has become a familiar local name by serving generous portions at wallet-friendly prices.
Their chickens are double dredged and fried exactly for 13 minutes to achieve the crispy batter that goes crunch in your mouth, they recommend that you eat it as soon as you get it to experience it at the maximum level.

At Ayam Lejen III, don’t miss their Shaker Chicken Tenders, where you can coat every bite yourself with flavours like Mala, Thai Lime, Peri-Peri and Charcoal.
6. Supernomms, Shah Alam
Pressure frying gives Supernomms’ Fried Chicken its signature juicy bite while keeping the crust light and crisp.
They also pride themselves on never using frozen chicken.
Fresh chickens are delivered to their outlets daily so you know that they are committed to keeping the quality of their menu high.
Supernommsβ chicken pieces are also BIG, perfect for sharing if you are not a big eater. Their famous Fried Chicken is marinated with 14 herbs and spices, while…
… their Salted Egg Tenders deliver a creamy, curry leaf-infused finish that’s hard to stop eating.

7. Ayam Masywi, Gombak
Not every legend is fried.
Since 1999, Masywi has been serving beautifully roasted Ayam Golek inspired by Middle Eastern flavours.
The founder, Tuan Haji Wan Ibrahim grew up in Mekah and when he returned to Malaysia, he missed the chicken he loved so much during his childhood that he set up a business to sell it.
He imported the roaster from Makkah thus Ayam Masywi was born, now the business is helmed by his son, Wan Hisham.

Marinated overnight, slowly cooked over fire, constantly basted and finished with a smoky golden skin, it’s proof that great chicken comes in many forms. Served with a side of Nasi Arab for a complete meal.
Tip : Ask Wan to give you the chicken basting from the top row. That has the crispiest skin!
8. Hott Chickk, TTDI
…is coming right up soon!

Why Ayam Lejen Exists
Over the years, FriedChillies has introduced thousands of Malaysians to great places worth eating at.
The problem? You usually have to drive all over Klang Valley to try them.
Ayam Lejen was created to solve that problem.

For one weekend, we bring some of our favourite fried chicken lejens (and one ayam golek) together under one roof so you can experience them side by side.
But Ayam Lejen is about more than fried chicken.
It’s our way of celebrating the people behind the food.
The founders who started with a food truck.
The husband-and-wife teams who built a loyal following one customer at a time.
The family businesses that have been serving communities for decades.
The young entrepreneurs introducing new styles of fried chicken to Malaysia.
They are the unsung heroes who make Malaysia one of the most exciting food destinations in the world.
This festival is our way of saying thank you.
