This comforting dish is subtle and yet tasty. It’s a Raya mainstay for some households and goes delicious with some extra ketupat lying around and a nice dollop of kuah kacang or sambal sotong.

Ingredients

- 4 shallots, pounded

- 1 garlic, pounded

- 2 red chillies, sliced thinly at a diagonal

- 1″ piece galangal, smashed

- 1 packet tempeh, sliced thinly

- 1 potato, quartered and sliced into small chips about 1/4″ thin

- 1/4 cabbage head, sliced thinly into shreds

- 1 carrot, julienned

- 6 long beans, sliced thinly at a diagonal

- 1 small turnip, julienned

- 2 small cartons santan

- 2 small bay leaves

- Salt
Instructions
- Put everything except the salt in a large pot.
- Add enough water to just cover the vegetable mix.
- Stir everything evenly and turn on the flame to a medium heat.
- Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat to a gentle simmer and season with salt and a couple of pieces of asam keping (optional).
- Cook until the vegetables soften.
Notes
A typical home cooked Malay dish that gets you adding more rice on your plate! Serve with warm rice for lunch or eaten with kuah kacang and ketupat for breakfast.
