Alfiyah Lontong Jawa Asli

Lontong is one of those dishes where it’s difficult to find a really good one. It is the broth that really makes or breaks this dish- it must have the right consistency and creaminess to it. Alfiyah Lontong Jawa Asli serves a mighty good bowl that has people queuing up as early as 7.30am.

Crispy paru is crumbled into the lontong broth!

Alfiyah Lontong Jawa Asli is recommended to me from a friend, “try the lontong, oh and don’t forget the paru goreng. You’ll never taste anything like it”. I’ve tasted my fair share of lontong, most were very lackluster, but when a trusted friend mention that you’ll never taste anything like it, I mean hey, that’s quite a claim no?

I came as early as 7.30am, but the queue was already building up. As recommended I order up a plate of lontong and I add on some paru on top. Now it’s worthy to note that while the sweet Makcik is preparing your plate, she crunches some paru, yes, crunch (a loud satisfying crispy crunch) and scatter it on top of your lontong.

The lontong is warm, the perfect temperature to be enjoyed right away. Nasi impit has a nice firm consistency and the broth is just flavourful. Although it is not thick, you can taste the coconut milk and some turmeric.

The paru goreng on the other hand is indeed something special. Even when it’s soaked in the broth for a while it still retains its crunchiness. You won’t find chewy springy paru here.

Alfiyah Lontong Jawa also serves up a mean plate of nasi lemak if you are a nasi lemak fanatic. For those who like a change for breakfast, the lontong here will not disappoint. It is definitely worth the journey and the queue.
