Restoran Mahbub have been churning out butt-kicking and “sedap hingga menjilat jari” Nasi Biryani Ayam Madu since the 70’s. Trust me, I’ve been a regular there since I can chew!

The smell of the Briyani is one of the first things you’ll notice the moment you step into the always crowded eatery. The light but very distinct saffron aroma fills the entrance as the giant cooker sits next to the an array of lauk to scoop up all that delicious and fluffy Briyani with.
Mahbub is the only place I’ll eat Ayam Madu till this day. I find mixing sweet and savoury flavours sometimes a bit too funky but Mahbub has got it right on the ball with this one and when you “makan” it with their signature Briyani, haih it’s difficult to describe but i’ll try my best.
Mahbub Briyani Ayam Madu comes with a plate of not too chunky Dhal Curry for you to douse on your warm Briyani. This also gives it that extra kick! Your briyani also comes with a plate of acar timun. The “masam masam manis” of it perfectly cuts the richness of the fragrant rice and and ayam madu so you won’t get “muak” of it.
I love how they fry the Ayam Madu just enough for it to not overcook, keeping the moisture and juiciness of the chicken. They smother it with the sweet, spicy and slightly smoky kuah madu that coats it perfectly without sacrificing the crispiness of the chicken as well.
Of course being a mamak, you can get all kinds of food here too. If you are in the mood for something a little lighter, I recommend the Nasi Dhal, light with a texture of Nasi Minyak. They start serving this from 5pm onwards. If you’re feeling like Rojak, get a lil fancy with the Rojak Ayam, crispy Mamak-style Fried Chicken with a thick, spicy and smoky peanut sauce. Ooo so layan especially for supper!
