Its all halal by the way.. and it’s still damn good!

[Sneak Peek] Looking for great fried chicken near you? Here’s a list of 5 of our Top 10 Ayam Lejens for tastiest fried chickens town. From chicken & waffles, korean fried chicken to the best local goreng ones.. its all here.

1. Fried Chicken Cheese Leleh at Familia Fried Chicken, Kg Baru.
Ratings : 4.75 / 5.0

This is the first street cheese laden fried chicken in Malaysia. You get tasty chicken pieces fried golden brown, crispy on the out side, juicy on the inside which is good on its own and then… owner Izzat pours their special version of cheese sauce all over it. Not for the faint hearted. Its slightly spicy chicken batter mixes well with the cheese sauce giving it a good balance. You can’t stop till its all gone. RM10/set

2. Horlicks Battered Fried Chicken at Ah Kow, Food Court Raja Muda Musa KL.
Ratings : 4.9 / 5.0

Damn, this fried chicken is still good. You don’t really get the absolute taste of horlicks but its there. Ayam Lejen Ah Kow really knows his stuff. The chicken has a secret prep method which Ah Kow is really particular about, it then gets coated into his special sesame horlicks batter and then goes into a huge cauldron fryer which he personally cooks. So the chicken comes out with a great crunchy outside. Good with his chicken rice. Come late, no more. And by late.. we mean 12.30pm… RM6/meal more or less.

3. Handmade Chicken & Waffles at Chequers TTDI
Ratings : 4.7 / 5.0

Owner Terence and gang was inspired open up a chicken and waffles shop after a mind blowing C&W experience in New York. We love the original Chicken & Waffles version, waffles is tender slightly crusty outside. Chicken is stuffed with turkey ham (we like) & deep fried with batter. It has a nice tasty bite to it. Drizzled with their mozarella, cheddar cheese sauce. sauce with fries on the side too. Just like how momma used to make. Nice! RM27+

4. Chee Cheong Fun Fried Chicken at Lim Fried Chicken, Subang Jaya
Ratings : 4.8 / 5.0

The secret to their famous fried chicken is that they marinate the chickens fresh daily in a special brine and batter mixture. It gets a massage (yes it does!) and then in it goes into a giant oil “filled to the brim” wok. We love the fact that they use only chicken thighs so its lagi juicy. Who would have thought to eat them lovely thighs with silky chee cheong fun? Chee Cheong Fun + Crispy Chicken + Cabbage + Sambal + Curry = Best Combo Ever!

5. Red Pepper Series at Kyochon
Ratings : 4.75 / 5.0

Sometimes you just want a fried chicken that is tasty.. and it’s consistently tasty. No hits and misses. We love the honey and spicy (red pepper) versions of their drummettes and wings. Spicy got kick! Use the plastic gloves. Kyochon hand-cut their chicken wings, prepares it fresh upon ordering, uses chicken that is free of antibiotics and growth hormones. Korean drama fans will know that Do Min-Jun’s love for fried chicken in “My Love from the Star” was [one of] the reason for the explosion of Korean fried chicken to the world.
RM25+ for half chicken.
