Island BBQ Steamboat

Hidden away in Kg. Melayu Subang is a steamboat and bbq spot that offers a great spread at decent prices. Farah went over for iftar recently and walked away quite happy…

Great buffet spread, affordable prices..

Foodies are always looking for a good deal when it comes to looking for a place to get their next meal. Buffets are a favourite option as you get to sample a variety of dishes at an affordable price. At Island BBQ Steamboat, you can satisfy your tummy without even making a dent to your wallet. It’s also tucked in a relatively quiet, secluded place…

According to Kak Faridah, the owner, the place is called ‘Island’ because she designed the buffet spread to be on an… island! Look closely and you’ll see the buffet spread is surrounded by a little ‘moat’ of sorts (with fishes!). Hence the name Island BBQ and Steamboat.

Lookout for this sign..

For just RM24.90 per person (RM29.90 during Ramadhan, as there are extra items in the menu like spaghetti, roti arab, nasi minyak, ayam merah and kuih) the buffet spread offers a selection of local dishes and fresh produce for the budget-friendly diner.

Airy and spacious… mind you, it gets crowded at peak hours!

Each table is equipped with a steamboat and a grill, so diners can get into the action by grilling and customising their steamboat with the assorted vegetables, meats (marinated or plain) and seafood on offer.

Choices! Choices!

You can choose either tom yam or chicken soup as the base. I recommend skipping the tom yam and going for the chicken, it’s more flavourful and tastier. Grill the meats, prawns and squid with tons of butter and chuck in the veg into the steamboat and your meal is sorted

This is how we do it..~

Don’t forget their dipping sauces too, which are all home-made. The shallot oil is especially yummy with seafood.

There’s a flavour for everyone…

Do try the nasi lemak and laksa as well. The nasi lemak is rich with coconut milk and pandan, paired with a sambal that is perfectly sweet and spicy. The laksa (which they call Laksa ‘Kebaboom’) has a wonderful fishy and savoury broth that is simple and delicious. For desserts, you can choose to end your meal with bubur durian or a yummy bowl of ice cream.

A great nasi lemak find at a steamboat place, of all places!

With its brisk service, affordable rates and great buffet spread, it is no surprise that Island BBQ Steamboat’s 60 tables are constantly filled up. Please make a booking before you come here to avoid any disappointments.
