Kota Damansara Food Crawl

Kota Damansara has a lot of great places to eat out even though it’s a little chaotic. Many of the eating out spots are concentrated within the shoplots that span between the shopping malls of Giza, Nexis and The Strand…

There Is Something For Everyone Here

Kota Damansara sits right in between Petaling Jaya and Subang, and is relatively a new neighbourhood. So in a way it’s still finding it’s feet as a makan destination. This means that anything goes, from hipster coffee joints to roadside laksa. And you know whatever is on this list is worth checking out…

We start our day at Sunway Nexis for some good ol’ breakfast. Sunway Nexis has a lot of cafes in it, one, in particular, is Molecules.

Molecules

Molecules is run by some really serious coffee aficionados, any coffee lovers would feel right at home here. If you don’t really know what you want, state your preference, and they are able to suggest to you a few options to suit your tastebuds. Not only that, they also have bagels that are freshly baked daily. We loved The Lox, which is a bagel sandwich with cream cheese, salmon gravlax, and horseradish as filling. If you want something sweeter then order up a plate of Beignets which is also baked daily (you might have to wait a little for this one).

Nasi Kerabu Golok

If you want a heftier breakfast then head over to Nasi Kerabu Golok. Here they specialise in East coast dishes so you can expect a pretty good Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang. The Nasi Kerabu here is loaded with all the goodies namely kerabu (or ulam), taugeh, serunding, budu, sambal belacan, ayam bakar and telur masin. You can further customise the dish by adding on solok lada or daging bakar.

Peter & Mawar

Back in Sunway Nexis is another unique shop for lunch. Peter & Mawar showcases a good selection of fusion cuisine. Our pick is the Butter Chicken Massala with Cajun Rice, the chicken tandoori strips are cooked in a combination of tomato & butter sauce. The Cajun Rice has traces of butter in it. This dish showcases both Asian and Western tastes that work together harmoniously.

Hameediyah

Hameediyah needs no introduction, as it is one of the oldest Nasi Kandar hailing from Penang. They have been serving nasi kandar for more than 100 years. Besides the usual nasi kandar, we love their murtabak and nasi biriyani. The murtabak here is fat and filled with meaty fillings, and their secret is they double wrap the murtabak to make the outer crust crispy. The nasi biriyani here is served like a nasi kandar, laden with kuah kari campur. A pretty worthy branch to get stuck into.

Man Laksa

Laksa lovers rejoice! This authentic laksa utara is sure to satisfy your taste buds. The thick kuah laksa is filled with fish and asam keping, one whiff of this and you’ll nod your head in approval. It also comes with all the staple condiments like onions, cili padi, cucumber, and a half boiled egg. Once that is done, cool down with a bowl of cendol.

Cookie Nation

Cookie Nation is where you can be a kid again. There are a lot of delicious cookies, ice cream, and milkshakes. The best part is that you can mix and match any cookie and ice cream to make a cookie ice cream sandwich. We took their top-selling cookie and combined it with raspberry swirl ice cream. The sweetness of the chocolate chip cookie is balanced out with the sourness and creaminess of ice cream. We definitely would love to drop by here again, just to try out different combinations.

Little Yum Yum

This eatery specializes in Nyonya cuisine. Hailing from Ipoh, expect some delectable dishes such as Ayam Cencalok, Gulai Tumis Ikan and Pucuk Paku Ikan Masin. Gulai Tumis ikan won our hearts with its thick sweet, sour and slightly spicy broth. The fish is also still firm and flaky. Yum yum!

Tahu Bakar @ Station

We end our food crawl with one of Malaysia’s late night snack, Tahu Bakar! The tofu is grilled till it’s nice and crispy and then it is topped off with some sauce and vegetables. Simple yet so addictive.

Location: Jalan Teknologi 3/6b

Kota Damansara has a lot to offer, from western cafes to local grubs. So yeah, we look forward to more delicious places popping up here in the future.
