Guilt-free Roti Canai at Valentine’s… Almost!

One of our favourite for night-time roti canai, a Valentine roti is light and crisp and oh so easy to munch on…

Light and airy roti!

When it comes to roti canai, I like ‘em crispy. I love it light too with just a bit of fluffiness underneath. There are of course many of this kind in Klang Valley but Valentine occupies a sweet spot in my heart.

Crispy and light, I dare you not to order another one!

Theirs is spun crisp, light as air and for something you snack on at night it feels less of a sin. Satisfying without making you feel bloated. Of course the downside to this is that you can probably eat two without blinking an eye and a nasi lemak bungkus to boot but that is another story.

Valentine is actually the name of the son of this establishment. A soft-spoken and zen fellow, he was taught by his father to make their signature roti. On the night we spoke to him, we lucked out because he tossed the roti for us and even his staff stopped awhile to watch him. He handles the dough with care. There’s a lightness to his tossing, efficient but with style. It’s like watching an artist at work. I instantly ordered the Roti Tissue or KLCC and it came so delicate and crisp, it can rival any pastry out there.

In recent years they have renovated their shack into a proper shop and upped the menu to include your usual Indian kedai kopi fare like Goreng stuff and Soups but it’s still the roti that reigns supreme.

You can go bezerk and order up their Roti Valentine which is a level up of a roti sardine with extra veggies inside- that would be a hearty dinner and they have other incarnations of roti too like Roti Kaya, Planta and a hearty Masala Roti filled with spiced potatoes.

Personally of the other stuff they have on the menu I really like the sup ayam and sup kambing. It is full of fragrant rempah, good enough to put a bit of hair on your chest. Imagine a cold night and slurping it down!
